A Creative Lockdown
Samantha is a gigging musician and rarely had the opportunity or time to write her own songs...until the Covid 19 lockdown 2020.
Having the weekends gig-free and lots more time in the week allowed her to get back to some creative time resulting in an album worth of originals!
A Time of Peace
“It was amazing to have the time to explore ideas.
The pressures of life stopped momentarily and I jumped off into a world of melodies and lyrics that I was able to get onto paper and recorded in bite sized sketches on my phone. “
At gigs she mainly sings and is accompanied by her guitarist brother, Rod but over the past 5 years, Samantha has picked up some knowledge of the guitar which has helped her write.
“I have a penchant for jazz and jazz chords so I have worked a few of these into certain songs. Often I would play a few chords and build a song around some beautiful chords. It's something that I could never have done without a basic understanding of the guitar so I'm so glad I have found this wonderful instrument. “
Her background is singing jazz and she loves R&B and Motown so there's a heavy influence there. Though greatly inspired by artists such as Corinne Bailey Rae, The Brand New Heavies, Amy Winehouse and Jill Scott, Samantha has a style of her own with a relaxed and mellow vibe.
